If you have your focus/weapon in one hand your other hand is free to hold your shield. That too is covered below, but if in doubt War Caster definitely allows a caster to hold a weapon and a shield.

    Druids are proficient in shields, but I cannot see how they can use them effectively and still be able to cast spells. A druid can use a Druidic focus, which can be wooden staff ( which requires two hands, so no shield), a totem, or mistletoe. So, a club does not qualify. If you have a shield in one hand, you need a totem or mistletoe in the other.
